1,186,018. Embossing surfaces. ARMSTRONG CORK CO. 7 Dec., 1967 [7 Dec., 1966], No. 55759/67. Heading B6C. Apparatus for forming fissures in acoustical material comprises a plurality of embossing plates 4 mounted on a cylindrical support surface 2 so that the entire periphery of each plate, with the exception of those plates at the end of the surface, is in contact with other plates and that each line of contact of the plates is not straight over a substantial portion of the surface. The side walls of each plate are polygonal, being either hexagonal, as shown, or any of the formations depicted in Figs. 4-9 (not shown). Adjacent plates may differ in shape and/or size. The operative surface of each plate is formed by a mixture of projecting pins (10), Fig. 3 (not shown), and elongated members (8) which may be inserted in a plate base or formed as a casting. The plates may alternatively be mounted on a flat support. |
