[Also in Division H1] A photo-electrophoretic imaging suspension comprises an insulating carrier liquid having dispersed therein a photo-sensitive pigment of formula wherein R is selected from H, CN, NO 2 and for at least two of the radicals R being other than hydrogen. The photo-sensitive pigment must have its principal light absorption band coincident with its principal photo-sensitive response. The preferred pigments are 1, 3, 6, 8 tetracyano; 1, 3 dicyano- 6, 8 - dibromo; 1, 3, 6, 8 tetraamino; 1, 3 dinitro- 6, 8- dicyano; 1, 6- dicyano; 1, 3, 6, 8 tetrabromo; 1, 3, 6, 8 tetranitro, and 1 cyano- 6 nitro pyrene. The insulating carrier liquid may be decane, dodecane, n-tetradecane, paraffin, beeswax, kerosene or a thermo-plastic material. The suspension may comprise three different coloured pigments to give a full colour reproduction e.g. a phthalocyanine, or a naphthol or naphthoic acid derivative. The suspension may be formed on a Nesa glass plate and traversed by a baryta paper electrode during exposure to an image. The image-formed by the suspension may be fixed using paraffin wax. |
