1,203,666. Vulcanization of fluorine-containing polymers. E.I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 6 Aug., 1968 [17 Aug., 1967; 22 May, 1968], No. 37467/68. Heading C3P. A saturated, fluorinated, elastomeric polymer is vulcanized by heating the polymer in the presence of a curing agent and, as accelerator, 1,10 - phenanthroline in amount up to 5 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of polymer. Suitable polymers are copolymers of vinylidene fluoride, hexafluoropropene and optionally tetrafluoroethylene. Suitable curing agents are ethylene diamine or its carbamate, hexamethylene diamine or its carbamate and bisphenol compounds containing two phenylol groups or their alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salts. The vulcanization may be carried but in the presence of a basic divalent metal oxide or hydroxide e.g. MgO or Mg(OH) 2 . In the example a copolymer of vinylidene fluoride and hexafluoropropene is vulcanized in the presence of hexamethylene diamine, 1,10- phenanthroline, carbon black and magnesium oxide. |
