[Also in Division F2] A valve for refilling a lighter with liquefied gas comprises an 0-ring 72 forming a seat for a valve member 80 and forming a further seat for an adaptor 82 extending from a refilling tank 92. The end of the adaptor 82 is passed through the O-ring to push the valve member 80 off its seat against the action of a spring 78; and a shoulder 110 on the adaptor finally seats on the 0-ring. In an intermediate position of the adaptor 82 gas in the lighter can escape through the partially opened valve and past the adaptor to atmosphere. The adaptor is carried on an outlet tube 88 having a head 94 urged by a spring 98 against a resilient seat 96 to prevent the escape of gas from the refilling tank, but pressure on the refilling tank after the adaptor has seated on the 0-ring moves the head away from the gasket and gas flows into the outlet tube 88 through holes 104 therein. The filling valve may be mounted in an aperture in the bottom or side of the lighter. The head of the lighter comprises a thumbpiece which is pressed to open a snuffer, rotate a spark wheel and pivot a lever to open a valve controlling the gas flow to the burner of the lighter. |
