1,177,867. Feeding record tapes. V-M CORP. 30 April, 1968 [15 May, 1967], No. 20390/68. Heading G5R. A take-up reel for a driven tape is rapidly accelerated to its working speed by clutching it to a motor running at a no-load speed higher than the working speed and with a rotational energy greater than that of the reel and motor when running together at the working speed. Compliance arms (17, 23) engage the tape (16) between the capstan (26) and the supply (12) and take-up (14) reels and may be retracted to simplify threading of the tape. The clutch elements (61, 68) are of high-friction inelastic material, e.g. aluminium. The tape heads (31, 32) and pinch roller (34) are carried on a solenoid-controlled pivoted arm (28). The clutch and the compliance arms also are controlled by solenoids (88, 52). |
