The floor covering may be produced by continuously applying by spreading or doubling to one surface of the glass-fibre fabric material to a surface of which an adhesive material has been applied a elastomeric surface layer of natural and/or synthetic rubber and/or thermoplastic plastics material, and continuously applying to the other surface of the glassfibre fabric by spreading or doubling a layer of a foamed or foamable base layer of natural and/or synthetic rubber and/or thermoplastic plastics material, the temperature of which material is being subsequently raised to effect partial or complete vulcanisation, cross-linking or gelation of the materials, if spread, and/or foaming the base layer if the base layer is formed of foamable material. The glass-fibre cloth may first be modified by enlarging the fibre surface. Adhesive may be applied to both sides of the cloth. The thermoplastic plastics material may be a polyurethane or polyvinyl chloride. The foamable material may be an expanding agent-containing paste of a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer or a gassed polyvinyl chloride paste. The surface layer may be subjected to embossing prior to the temperature raising.
