1,222,095. Purifying cyanuric chloride. AGRIPAT S.A. 16 Feb., 1968 [17 Feb., 1967], No. 7599/68. Heading C1A. A solution of cyanuric chloride is made by condensing crude gaseous cyanuric chloride produced by the trimerization of cyanogen chloride to a liquid, flashing off chlorine, cyanogen chloride and cyanuric chloride gas therefrom, absorbing the degassed liquid cyanuric chloride in a first solvent, absorbing the flashed-off gases in a second solvent with which the gases will not react and which is less absorbent of cyanuric chloride than the first solvent, stripping from this solution all absorbed gases except cyanuric chloride, transferring the cyanuric chloride from the second solvent to a further portion of the first solvent, and combining this solution of recovered cyanuric chloride with the solution of liquid cyanuric chloride in the first solvent. In one embodiment, the cyanogen chloride content of the gases flashed off from the condensed liquid cyanuric chloride is trimerized before absorbing the gases in the second solvent. Apparatus is described. In an example, cyanogen chloride is trimerized to cyanuric chloride at 300‹ C. and condensed to liquid at 150‹ C. Toluene and carbon tetrachloride are used as first and second solvent, respectively. The first solvent may alternatively be monochlorobenzene. |
