1,213,364. Fuel cell electrode. SIEMENS A.G. 6 Nov., 1968 [16 Nov., 1967], No. 52699/68. Heading H1B. An electrode suitable for use in a hydrogen oxygen fuel cell is formed at least partially from a polymer of a metal-containing and/or metal free phthalocyanine which is optionally substituted in the nucleus. The polymer may be disposed between two porous electrically conducting plates e.g: metal gauzes, which are held in a frame, generally of an insulating plastics material. The polymer may be mixed with a metal, carbon or graphite in powder or fibrous form, and the catalytic activity may be enhanced by heating to temperatures from 300‹ to 500‹ C. Polyphthalocyanines of Cu, Ag, Ni, Fe, Mn, Co and Cr are suitable as cathodes while metal free and copper polyphthalocyanines are suitable as anodes. |
