The invention relates to a method for checking the bead of a joint-forming product delivered onto a surface via the end of a nozzle moved over the surface along a defined path, according to which the freshly deposited bead fraction is illuminated, behind the nozzle, with respect to its direction of movement, by a light beam having defined cross-section, and the reflected light is collected, its level being compared with a defined threshold. According to the invention, the reflected light is split into two beams, each of the beams is filtered, respectively around a wavelength corresponding to the colour of the bead of product and around a wavelength in the visible spectrum which is markedly different from that of the colour of the product, each of the substantially monochromatic beams is collected by a cell, the output signal from one of the cells is divided by the other and the signal resulting from the division is continuously compared with a preestablished threshold in order to deliver a signal if this threshold is exceeded. <IMAGE>
