1434804 Preventing corrosion of metals APPLIED CHEMICALS PTY Ltd 2 Aug 1973 [2 Aug 1972] 36848/73 Heading C7E An aqueous composition for inhibiting corrosion of e.g. steel, Cu or Al, comprises an aliphatic hydroxycarboxylic acid or water-soluble salt thereof together with a water-soluble zinc salt of a different kind of acid in the weight ratio of hydroxy acid or salt to Zn<SP>++</SP>between 3:1 and 10:1. The organic acid or salt may be gluconic, glucoheptonic, citric, tartaric, N,N-dibydroxyethylglycine or N-hydroxyethyl ethylenediamine triacetic acid or the Na, K or NH 4 salts thereof. The zinc salt may be the chloride, nitrate, sulphate, acetate or fluoride. Conventional scale inhibitors, e.g. a proprietry organophosphate, and/or a bactericide and/or sufficient acid to prevent zinc salt hydrolysis may be present. The composition may take the form of an aqueous concentrate acidified to pH <7. Comparative disclosure refers to the use of Al 2 (SO 4 ) 3 or Na molybdate in place of the zinc salt. |
