<p>Steel making plant for melting down steel scrap, using a horizontal conveyor to supply the scrap to a melting hearth followed by a refining hearth and a collecting hearth the three hearths being connected by conveyor gutters for the melt. For continuous casting, the three hearths are stationary and are connected by horizontal electromagnetic conveyor gutters, and a further horizontal electromagnetic gutter is used to connect the collecting hearth to a continuous casting plant. The average height of the melt in the hearths and the gutters is pref. the same and pref. ca. one metre above the continuous casting plant. Provides low cost, continuous melting plant for the continuous prodn. of steel billets, 6 m long and below 100 mm dia. for reinforcing concrete.</p> |
