<p>The dynamo comprises a high energy permanent magnet (5) with iron pole pieces (6, 7) on which are mounted the output windings (3, 4). The rim (1) of the bycycle wheel is made with depressions or teeth (2) which are of the same pitch as the spacing of the iron pole pieces. The flux in the air gap between the poles and the rim is thus modulated due to the effective cyclic variation in air gap, and the machine generates a voltage on the principle of an inductor generator. The wheel may be expressly made with the necessary teeth pressed into the rim or, alternatively, a thin ring with the required slotting may be fixed to an existing wheel.</p> |
