<p>1463451 Body scanner CLEON CORP 11 Feb 1975 [4 March 1974 (2)] 5737/75 Heading H4F Apparatus for imaging radiation, from the whole body of a patient, comprises a horizontal patient support above and below which are mounted scanning heads 11, 12, Fig. 3, Each head contains a row of twelve radiation detectors disposed along a line transverse to the longitudinal axis of the support. The twelve detectors reciprocate in unison within the head along the transverse line with amplitude slightly greater than the distance between adjacent detectors, and in such a manner that smooth acceleration and deceleration takes place in the overlap region and constant velocity is maintained for the rest of the cycle, the detectors being inactive in the overlap region. Each detector comprises a lead collinator, a U.V. transmitting filter, a scintillation crystal, light pipe and photomultiplier, and receives radiation from a respective focal point in a line of focal points disposed laterally in the image plane of the patient's body. The heads, with the detector reciprocating therein, are moved slowly, with respect to the transverse velocity of the detectors, along the length of the patient to obtain an image. Digital signals from the detectors are received by a processing circuit, Fig. 7 (not shown) which employs a read only memory in which a reference grey scale is recorded. The signals are analysed and the exposure time of a light sensitive film to the spot of a C.R.T. is thereby regulated. The grey scale is also recorded on the film. The signals are further processed by the circuitry of Fig. 9 (not shown) whereby they are stored: on a magnetic disc; and, in analogue form, in an electrostatic video storage unit for subsequent display on a monitor.</p> |
