The device forms a cut-away portion in a sliding clasp closure tape, with a continuous run of closure elements fixed to one edge of a ribbon. The device comprises a gripper unit (7) alongside a press unit (4), to grasp the ribbon from the closure element side. Thus, the portion to be cut away may be introduced between a punch (3) and a matrix (2) of the press unit, and between upper & lower grips of the gripper unit, so that the group of closure elements may be correctly positioned with the maximum facility. The device correctly positions the ribbon without damaging or breaking it.
