PURPOSE:To simplify processing algorithm and to secure the recognition of notation contents by adding subordinate notation contents to be different image information at every notation content and providing a decision processing part for the subordinate notation contents to a decision processing part. CONSTITUTION:When a body is marked with numeral 0-9 as notation letter, triangular and rectangular marks are added as different subordinate notation contents at every numeral of 0-9 to print. The image of this body and notation letter is image picked up by a camera 2, whose output is converted by a threshold circuit 3 into a binary signal, which is stored in a storage circuit 4. Those operations are controlled by the signal of a timing circuit 5 and the image signal stored in the circuit 4 is applied to a recognizing device 7 through a preprocessing part 12 by the clock of a clock circuit 6 under the control of the circuit 5. This processing part 12 and device 7 decide on the contents of marks, and the output of the device 7 is applied to a numeral deciding circuit 11 through counter devices 9 and 10 to simplify the processing algorithm, thus securing the recognition of the numbers.
