Aroylimidazolones I [Ar=2-furyl, 2-thienyl, Ph, optionally substituted Ph; R=H, C1-4 alkyl, alkyl carbonyl, benzoyl; R1=H, C1-4 alkyl! were prepd. for use as antihypertensives, anticoagulants, and catdiotonics. Thus, Friedel-Crafts acylation of 98.1 g 1,3-dihydro-4- methyl-2H-2-imidazolone with 158.6g 4-FC6H4COCl gave 131 g I [R=H; R1=Me; Ar=4-FC6H4, which (11.0 g) was treated with piperidine to give 11.9 g I [R=H; R1=Me; Ar=4-piperidinophenyl!.
