This describes a fluid-driven pump for transporting oil from an underwater oil well to the onshore processing plant. - Two pipelines join the pump stations with the processing plant, where one line carries a high pressure fluid such as oil or water, while the other returns oil from the well to the plant. If the hydraulic fluid is oil, it is also returned via the second line, while water is simply released to the sea. - The pump station consists a rotating drum containing several axial piston pairs. Each pair consists of a driving piston connected to a pumping piston. As the drum is rotated by a hydraulic motor, each piston pair is lined up in turn with channels connecting to the high pressure and return lines. When lined up, the driving piston closes the pumping piston to force oil into the return line. Internal channels connect the back side of each driving piston so that operation of one piston causes the others to suck in oil from the well. |
