PURPOSE:To obtain the titled sintered compact, having high toughness and hardness and useful as tools and structural parts, by adding Nd2O3 and Y2O3 as a stabilizer for the crystal structure to ZrO2 and blending the resultant blend with Al2O3, SiC, TiC, B4C or TiB2. CONSTITUTION:A raw material powder prepared by blending 40-90vol.% ZrO2 containing 0.1-3mol.% Nd2O and 0.5-3.5mol.% Y2O3 as a stabilizer for the crystal structure with 10-60vol.% one or more of Al2O3, SiC, TiC, B4C or TiB2 is formed, sintered and then subjected to hot hydrostatic pressing treatment at 1,300-1,600 deg.C temperature under >=100kg/cm<2> pressure to provide the aimed sintered compact, having the crystal structure consisting of tetragonal crystals or tetragonal and cubic crystals and having <=2mu average crystal grain diameter and >=25% stress induced modification ratio. |
