An elongate pick enables placement of a water bottle on a water dispensing cooler without leakage and/or spill of water. Conventional plastic bottles in which spring water is sold comprise a neck itself defining an opening closed by means of a thickness of substantially deformable plastic material. The elongate pick is formed with a point, a shank portion having an outer surface formed with longitudinal channels therein, and an intermediate hole sealing portion. In operation, (a) the point is driven through the thickness of plastic material to puncture this material and form a hole therein, (b) the pick is further driven through the thickness of plastic material to position the intermediate portion in the hole to thereby seal that hole and enable the bottle to be inverted without leakage and/or spill of water, (c) the inverted bottle is placed on the annular seat of the cooler with the bottleneck extending downwardly in the upwardly open reservoir of that cooler, and (d) upon placement of the inverted bottle on the seat, the distal end of the shank portion is applied to the bottom of the reservoir to further drive the pick through the thickness of deformable material and position the shank portion in the hole to thereby enable flow of water from the bottle to the reservoir through the longitudinal channels.
