PURPOSE: To determine the degree of non-linearity of a detector at different output levels, by using an AC signal and a DC signal of an ionization chamber, detecting/correcting the change of the gas density and estimating the life termination of the detector. CONSTITUTION: A detector 1 of an ionization chamber type is constituted of two conductive electrodes 11, 12 isolated from each other. The gap 13 between the electrodes is sealed and an ionizing gas is fed in the gap. A thin film, a thin layer or a coat 14 which can be made radioactive by neutrons is set on a surface of one or both of the electrodes 11, 12. Nuclear fission is brought about to a substance of the coat 14 under the presence of a neutron bundle at a speed proportional to the neutron bundle. A resulting fission product causes ionization of the gas present in the gap 13 of the electrodes in proportion to the number of nuclear fissions. Ions are caught by the electrodes, whereby an alternating current and a direct current flow through the ionization chamber.
