The subject of the present invention is a method for evacuating and sealing flat display screens. The method consists in positioning, in a hermetic enclosure, the cathode and anode plates (1, 2) constituting the flat screen at a sufficient mutual separation to allow rapid and efficient degassing, then in evacuating the said enclosure and, finally, once the degassing has been carried out, and still under vacuum, in bringing the plates together and sealing them using preferably metallic specific peripheral seals (17, 18) which ensure robust leaktightness. The method generally relates to the field of flat display screens. <IMAGE>
