A thin circular disk (10) is supported at the circumference by a rigid frame (14). A hollow cylinder (11) which receives the compressive force to be measured is attached to the disk at a location most sensitive to resonance and two piezoelectric elements (12) on either side of the disk deliver energy and receive the response. The compressive force may be determined from the resonant frequency.
