PATIO UMBRELLA WITH RADIANT HEATER

A patio umbrella that includes a dining table and a fuel-burning radiant heater avoids overheating of the upper canopy (20) by mounting the support (24) on which the upper canopy rests in the shadow cast by a reflector (28) that converges upwardly to form a chimney portion (34). The reflector is affixed to the housing of the combustion chamber (18) by legs (32). In addition to reflecting radiant heat downwardly onto the table and the diners , the reflector shields the upper canopy support (24) from radiant heat and provides a duct (34) for venting the products of combustion. As the latter pass up through the chimney portion, cooler air is drawn up through the spac e (30) between the reflector (28) and the upper canopy support (24) thereby preventing hot air from stagnating there. The upper canopy support is mounte d to the reflector and spaced above it by a number of insulative ceramic space rs (26).
