PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a stable turning flow even in a high head with simple constitution, and restrain mixing of air. SOLUTION: This multistage vortex type head work has a vortex chamber 9, a taper part 10 formed on the lower end of the vortex chamber 9 so that a diameter gradually reduces downward, a catchment pipe 13 connected from the tangent direction to the vortex chamber 9, a straight pipe part 11 connected to a lower part of the taper part 10 and an upper vortex type head work 7 having a turning force extinguishing means 18 and a gas separating means 21 formed in the straight pipe part 11. A lower part of the upper vortex type head work 7 is provided with one or more stages of lower vortex type head works 8 composed of a lower vortex chamber 22, a lower taper part 23 formed on the lower end of the lower vortex chamber 22 so that a diameter gradually reduces downward, a connecting pipe 25 having the lower end connected from the tangent direction to the lower vortex chamber 22 and the upper end connected to the lower end of the straight pipe part 11 of the upper vortex type head work 7 and a lower straight pipe part 24 connected to a lower part of the lower taper part 23.
