<p>In a hydraulic steering arrangement in which a steering slide valve 2 is controlled by pilot pressures applied to the end faces 8 of the slide from a steering-wheel-operated hydraulic unit 4 or an electro-hydraulic steering unit 6, the highest of the pressures at the four work connections 7 of the two steering units 4, 6 is applied to one end 8 of the slide and the lowest of the pressures acts on the other end 8 of the slide. The selection of the pressures to operate on the ends 8 is by a valve arrangement 11 having shuttle valves 9 and further pressure-controlled two-position valves 13a, 13b. The arrangement reduces the response time of the steering system, ensuring that the highest pressure operates on the slide in opposition to the lowest, usually that of a tank connection, to maximise the pressure differential.</p> |
