Cleaning contact elements in electrographic write head by applying high frequency alternating voltage

The method involves applying an alternating voltage to the contact elements. The contact elements may be in contact with a recording surface of an image carrier during the application of alternating voltage. The alternating voltage may be at a high frequency, approximately equal to the resonant frequency of the contact-element-dirt layer system, and with an amplitude typically in the range 100 to 300 V at 1 kHz. An Independent claim is included for an image recording apparatus.
