The lever tappet producing process involves stamping a lever-type tappet valve shaft fitting from sheet. This fitting, including its guide cheeks (7, 8) is produced by cold forging, so that an imprinting punch (17a, 17b) is applied laterally to the cheeks being formed at the underside, on which it acts to thin out the plate region under it and deform it plastically to form the cheeks.
