The chimney fire extinguisher consists of a box mounted on legs (1) on top of a chimney (0) and made up of a fixed section (10) and a mobile section (6). In the event of a chimney fire a detector (28) that is resistant to heat but burns in the flames releases two levers (3, 16) supporting the mobile section, allowing it to slide down the legs and cover the top of the chimney, shutting off the draught. At the same time a spring-loaded striker (26) sets off a fire extinguisher (11) to put out the fire.
