An apparatus and a method for providing motion information of an object are provided to supply the motion information of the object by using a DIS(Digital Image Stabilizer) function included in a digital photographing device, thereby removing the necessity for special hardware for the motion information of the object and accordingly implementing the digital photographing device having a tracking focus function easily. A first projection memory(311) stores a value that image values of a current image, belonging to a window of selecting an important part, are projected in one dimension. A second projection memory(312) stores a value that image values of a previous image, belonging to the window, are projected in one dimension. A motion vector estimating unit(320) calculates relation between the image values projected to the first projection memory with the image values projected to the second projection memory, and calculates motion vector. A window location calculator(330) calculates a location of the window on the next image by using the motion vector. A window location controller(340) controls image values which will be projected to the first and second projection memories according to the location of the window.
