The use of a compound of the formula wherein R<SUP>1</SUP>-R<SUP>3 </SUP>independently of one another are hydrogen, C<SUB>1</SUB>-C<SUB>8</SUB>-alkyl or C<SUB>1</SUB>-C<SUB>8</SUB>-alkoxy, R<SUP>4 </SUP>is COR, CO<SUB>2</SUB>R, CONR<SUB>2</SUB>, where R is C<SUB>1</SUB>-C<SUB>8</SUB>-alkyl or C<SUB>3</SUB>-C<SUB>8</SUB>-cycloalkyl R<SUP>5 </SUP>is H or C<SUB>1</SUB>-C<SUB>8</SUB>-alkyl, R<SUP>6 </SUP>is aryl, aryl substituted by up to three C<SUB>1</SUB>-C<SUB>8</SUB>-alkyl- or C<SUB>1</SUB>-C<SUB>8</SUB>-alkoxy, or C<SUB>3</SUB>-C<SUB>8</SUB>-cycloalkyl as UV filters in cosmetic formulations, in particular in combination with UV filters from the group consisting of methoxycinnamate derivatives and/or dibenzoylmethane derivatives, with the proviso that R<SUP>5 </SUP>is H if R<SUP>4 </SUP>is COR, is described.
