PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To always appropriately paste a cover with a very simple mechanism adaptable to a small-sized bookbinding machine. SOLUTION: The cover pasting machine is provided with a bottom plate and a pair of nip plates, pastes a cover straddlingly placed on the pair of the nip plates to a pasted lower end face of a sheet bundle positioned above the bottom plate between the pair of the nip plates by pressing up the bottom plate, and presses the lower end face of the sheet bundle so as to sandwich from both sides with the pair of the nip plates. A first cam 17 with a high cam crest and a second cum 18 with a low cam crest are fixed to the rotary shaft 14a of an arm 5e driving the pair of the nip plates 5b so as to nip. One of the first cam 17 or the second cam 18 with the low cam crest is selected as a cam abutting on a cam floor 15 attached to the bottom plate 5a, corresponding to the thicknesses of the cover, sheet bundle and paste pasted on the lower end face of the sheet bundle, and the bottom plate 5a is raised up to the height of the cam crest of the selected cam, when pasting the cover.
