PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charging system which can perform optimum charging depending on the performance of a charger and a battery pack.SOLUTION: A charging system includes a charger 1A having a secondary battery 2a, and a battery pack 2A that can be attached to the charger 1A. The charger 1A includes charging sections 10, 20, 30 performing the charging operation of the secondary battery, and battery type determination short means 8 for outputting a first short signal to the battery pack 2A when attachment thereof is detected. The battery pack 2A includes battery type determination element release means 2g for outputting a second short signal to the charger 1A when the first short signal is inputted therefrom. The charger 1A further includes an apparatus side microcomputer 50 for controlling the charging operation by the charging sections 10, 20, 30, depending on the fact whether or not the second short signal is inputted from the battery pack 2A for the first short signal. |
