1,135,432. Supporting cables. TEXTRON Inc. 6 Dec., 1965 [10 Dec., 1964], No. 51683/65. Heading DIT [Also in Division H2] An arrangement for securing a line L to a support member 14, comprises a line tie formed with a bight portion 10a in surrounding engagement with the support 14 and with a pair of resilient helical legs 11 surrounding the line and extending in opposite directions from the support, the arrangement being characterized in that the bight 10a is wrapped in tight engagement around the support 14 so as to be distorted within its elastic limits to provide resilient tension on the legs 11 to pull the legs and the line towards the support. As the legs 11 are applied to the line L the bight portion is twisted so that torsional energy is stored in the bight. The wires forming the bight portion 10a may be formed as (a) a helical ribbon; or (b) twisted to form a hard twist, or (c) formed from rods that are substantially straight. There may be friction means e.g. aluminium oxide, cemented to the inner surface of the helical legs. The specification describes and illustrates several embodiments of the arrangement. |
