[Also in Division F2] In a method of joining together resin-impregnated fibre-glass articles a curable adhesive is applied to the surface of one or both articles so as to form a joint and at least one combustible fuel element is applied to one or both articles at a location adjacent to but on the surface opposite to the adhesive joint between the articles, the element being ignited and burnt progressively to generate heat which is transmitted to the adhesive whereby the temperature of the latter is raised to accelerate curing thereof. As applied to pipes 13, 15, the latter are coated with an epoxy resin and a flexible fuel element 23 comprising a laminated structure of dry combustible material and a strip of metal is wrapped around the joint and secured in place by a chain 25 and clamp 27. Several elements 23 may be located around the pipe 13. |
