The invention comprises compounds of the formula wherein X is H, Cl, Br, I, OH or NH 2 , Y is a linear or branched aliphatic C 1-12 radical, a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic or araliphatic radical, CCl 3 or the residue of an aldose less its aldehyde radical, Z is H or OH, Z<SP>1</SP> is H or CH 3 and A is or and their salts, e.g. hydrochlorides. They are prepared by carrying out a Mannich reaction between an appropriately substituted tetracycline or a salt thereof, a compound of formula YCHO, wherein Y is as defined above, and α- or #-adamantamine. The compounds of the invention may be used as foodstuffs and agricultural products. |
