An elongate carton blank for forming an article carrier of the wrap-around type, comprises a plurality of panels 20, 21, 24, 26 separated by fold lines 25, 27 transverse to the elongate direction of the blank, a pair of reinforcing and retaining flaps being disposed astride one such transverse fold line, each flap having a main part e.g. 46 and a supplementary part e.g. 60, both main parts e.g. 46, 47 being struck from one of the panels e.g. 24 adjacent the transverse fold line 25 and being foldably joined thereto with the fold lines 58, 59 for the main parts of the two flaps diverging from each other in the direction towards the transverse fold line 25, and both supplementary parts e.g. 60, 61 being struck from the other of said panels 20 adjacent the transverse fold line and being foldably joined thereto along fold lines 72, 72a disposed at a substantial angle to the fold lines of their respective main parts. When the carrier is wrapped around the articles, the main flap-parts 46-57 are held flat between the bottom wall and the article, and the supplementary flap-parts 60-71 are normal to the bottom wall and inclined to the side wall and hold the articles C from side positions (Fig. 3, not shown). The flaps in folded condition afford apertures 40-45 for the elements of a machine to tighten the blank round the articles and members 28-35 are interlockable for closing the package. A flap 36 and tabs 10-12 separate the two rows of articles. Tabs 2-5 are struck from the top (or bottom) wall and folded inwardly by 180 degrees to be held against the top of the articles. Finger gripping tabs 16, 17 are also provided. For packaging bottles the top wall has side sloping portions (Fig. 5, not shown). A pull tab 38 and cuts 39 are provided to tear open the package. |
