The development of graft versus host disease in a mammalian patient undergoing cell transplantation therapy for treatment of a bone marrow mediated disease, is prevented or alleviated by subjecting at least the T-cells of the allogeneic cell transplantation composition, extracorporeally, to at least one stressor selected from heat stressors and oxidative stressors, in appropriate dosage amounts. A preferred process involves subjecting composition including T-cells and stem cells to the stressor(s) in the presence of a stem cell growth factor which acts as a protectant for the stem cells during the stressing process.
|
