Title cpds. of the formula R-(O-CX=N-CO-CO-Yr1)n (where R is haloalkyl, or opt. substd. aryl which can also be linked with heterocyclic residues and contain bridge members (e.g. alkylene, O, S, SO2, OCO); Y is O, S or NR2; R1 is an opt. substd. (cycloaliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic residue; R2 is H or an aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic residue, or NR1R2 is a heterocyclic ring system which can also contain further hetero atoms; X is halogen; and n is 1, 2 or 3) are prepd. by reacting R(OCN)2 with R1-Y-CO-CO-X at ca -20 to 150 degrees C, opt. in an inert diluent.
