1,133,920. Anion exchange resin. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 30 Oct., 1967 [17 Dec., 1966], No. 49165/67. Heading C3P. Anion exchange resins are produced by reacting a chloromethylated copolymer derived from an aromatic monovinyl compound and cross-linking agent, with a primary or secondary amine in the presence of an aqueous solution of an alkali metal hydroxide at from 0‹ to 60‹ C. Suitable copolymers, which may be macroporous, are styrene, vinyl naphthalene and vinyl toluene, and suitable cross-linking agents are di- and tri-vinyl benzene. Suitable amines are aliphatic mono- and di-alkylamines. Preferably, a 30 to 50% by weight solution of sodium or potassium hydroxide is used. In the examples, chloromethylated cross-linked styrene polymer (a copolymer of styrene and 6% by weight of divinyl benzene, prepared by suspension polymerization and subsequently chloromethylated) was treated with aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide and dimethyl amine to produce an anion exchange resin. |
