PURPOSE:To obtain a new compound useful as a 3alpha-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase inhibitor and an anti-inflammatory agent. CONSTITUTION:A compound of the formula. Visual appearance: red needle crystal; melting point: 254 to 255 deg.C; compositional formula: C22H30O4; molecular weight: 358; solubility: soluble in chloroform, acetone, etc., and insoluble in water. This compound can be obtained, e.g. by extracting roots of a peony with chloroform, concentrating the resultant extract, subsequently treating it according to the silica gel chromatography method, then eluting it with a solvent such as chloroform, methanol/chloroform and carrying out isolation and purification of the eluted active fraction according to the preparative thin layer chromatography method. |
