Surfactant alkyl phosphonic acids from - aluminium alkyls

POCl3 or POBr3 reacted with AlCl3 or AlBr3 and R3Al (pref. in the ratio of 3-9:2:1) or with RnAlX3-n esp. R2AlCl (n=1,2,3) gives new R-P(O)(OH)2 (where R=1-24C alkyl) an aqueous pref. acidic, work-up. Useful as wetting and floatation agents and for detergents.
