Sulphur containing resins are obtained by reacting a polythiomethylene-alkanol resin with a compound containing ethylenic unsaturation. The latter may be an olefin, e.g. isobutene, diisobutene or triisobutene, or a cycloalkene, a terpene, an acrylic compound or styrene. The polythiomethylene-alkanol resins are prepared by reacting an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal polysulphide with a haloepoxyalkane in the presence of H2S (see Specification 1,067,780). The reaction may take place between 100 DEG and 200 DEG C. for 30 minutes to 10 hours. The weight of the compound containing ethylenic unsaturation may be from 0.1 to 10 times the weight of the polythiomethylene-alkanol resin. The reaction may take place in the presence of molten sulphur, the quantity of S may be from 60 to 97% by weight of the mixture. Compositions are described containing pigments, glass balls, polystyrene balls, glass fibres, asbestos fibres and nylon fibres. |
