1306704 Web detection in photo-copying apparatus RICOH KK 15 April 1970 [6 May 1969] 17860/70 Heading G2A A photo-copying machine has an arrangement for detecting the termination of a roll of photosensitive paper 1 as it is being paid out within the machine, the arrangement comprising a pivotally supported sensing member 7 biased into engagement with the end-face of the roll whereby, when the roll has been completely paid out, the member 7 pivots (clockwise, as seen) under the action of its bias. As shown, the paper 1 is wound on a core 2 having a notch 3 at one end, and the roll is mounted on a shaft 5 having a block 6 with a projection 10 thereof engaging the notch 3 so as to align the notch 3 and the member 7, which is pivotally mounted on the block 6. A lever 9, also pivotally mounted in the block 6, follows the member 7 and is itself followed by an end of a bell-crank 12. Thus when the member 7 pivots clockwise, the lever 9 and the associated end of the bell-crank 12 are free to rise under the biasing force of a spring 18 and the other end of the bell-crank 12 moves a bar 15 to the right, thereby disengaging the actuator 17 of a detection switch 16. This actuates a warning circuit and/or deactuates a device which cuts the roll into separate sheets. The shaft 5 is then removed. Insertion of a fresh roll pivots the member 7 back to the position shown, this causing the bar 15 and other parts also to be returned to the position shown.
