1296908 Reconstituted tobacco AMF Inc 12 June 1970 [24 July 1969] 28517/70 Heading A2C A smokable product is produced by creating a foamed slurry from tobacco particles, water and as a foam stabilizing agent 0.3-2.5% (by weight of the non-solvent ingredients) of ethylhydroxyethyl cellulose having an ethoxyl degree of substitution of 1.2-1.6 and a hydroxyethyl molar substitution of 0.5-1.2, shaping the foamed slurry while maintaining the temperature thereof below the gelation temperature of the said ethylhydroxyethyl cellulose and subsequently drying the slurry to a predetermined moisture content. Unless the tobacco is treated in a manner to fully develop its adhesive properties, a conventional adhesive foaming agent is included in the slurry. The foamed product may be shaped into sheets, rods, cylinders, plugs, shreds or into a cigar shape. Sheets may be made of the thickness of the ultimate smoking article which may then be cut from said sheet, or the sheets may be thinner than the desired smoking article and be chopped or shredded for use as a filler in cigarettes, cigars or pipes. Reinforcing fibres, such as refined sulphite pulp or tobacco stem pulp, may be included in the slurry. |
