A windscreen 5 is secured in the vehicle body 6 by means of an elongate strip 1 of a tacky deformable butyl-rubber based compound. The strip having a constant cross section of rectangular or trapezuim section, and having a flexible non-stretchable tape 2 such as a woven cotton ribbon impervious to the material of the strip 1 and which bonds to the strip 1, covering one side of the strip and preferably extends on to the surface of the adjacent sides of the strip 1, the taped side being perpendicular to the screen which presses the strip between it and the part 6 of the vehicle body when pressed home, the strip deforming to fill the space between the edge 10 of the pane and the portion 9 of the part 6 and the tape preventing the material of the strip from flowing onto the vision part of the windscreen. This space may be covered by a trim strip (7 Fig. 4).</p> |
