A lubricant composition comprises an ester-based synthetic fluid of lubricating viscosity, a novel ester oil-soluble amide of an hydrogenated dimer acid having the formula (B)x-A-(CONRR1)2- x wherein A is the hydrocarbon residue of an hydrogenated dimer of a C16- 22 polyolefinic fatty acid, B represents -COOH groups or ester groups or both, R and R1 represent hydrogen, tetrahydrofurfuryl or an hydrocarbon radical optionally substituted with non-deleterious substituents, x is a positive number up to 1.7 and there being on the average up to 1/2 olefinic bond per molecule, and optional amounts of natural esters, methyl silicone polymer foam inhibitors and alkylene diamine tetraacetic acid tri-ester metal salt antioxidants. The lubricating ester component is preferably a neopentyl polyol polyester.ALSO:Novel ester oil-soluble amides of hydrogenated dimer acids having the formula (B)x-A-(CONRR1)2-x wherein A is the hydrocarbon residue of a hydrogenated dimer of a C16- 22 polyolefinic fatty acid, B represents -COOH groups or ester groups or both, R and R1 represent hydrogen, tetrhydrofurfuryl or a hydrocarbon radical optionally substituted with non-deleterious substituents, x is a positive number up to 1.7, and said amide having on the average up to 1/2 olefinic bond per molecule, are prepared by treating said dimer acids or their esters with an appropriate amount of ammonia or amine followed by heating to remove the desired amount of water. |
