In a process for the production of a textile fabric comprising synthetic fibres, which is impregnated and bonded with a resinous composition to form an integral fabric, the fibres are treated with a chromium compound whereof the chromium is present in the ionic state. As described the fabric is woven and may comprise polyamide, polyester or polyacrylic fibres either alone or mixed with cotton. The resinous composition may be a P.V.C. paste including trixylyl phosphate, dialphanol phthalate and a pigment. The chromium compounds may be inorganic, e.g. sodium dichromate, chromic chloride or chrome alum alone or in combination with chrome dyestuffs. The chromium compounds may be applied from an aqueous or nonaqueous solution or dispersion either before or after the fibres are converted into the textile fabric. In one example a woven fabric of polyamide fibres is immersed in a chromecontaining dye, is boiled, rinsed, boiled in an aqueous solution of sodium dichromate, washed, and dried. The treated fabric is then spread with P.V.C. paste, which is then cured. The fabrics produced are flame resistant and may be used as conveyor or transmission belts. |
