Recovery of iso- and n-butanol, useful as solvents for paints and lacquers and in plasticiser production takes place by rectifying oxo synthesis reaction mixture with water present in reaction mixture. At 84-86 degrees C, a distillate is drawn off contg. water, butyraldehyde, diisobutyl- and butyl isobutyl ether and up to 25% isobutanol. Bubble residue, containing iso- and n-butanol, high-boiling oxo synthesis by-products and dibutyl ether is first rectified under atmospheric pressure at 160 degrees C max., and then in vacuo, pref. 200 Torr max., to separate high-boiling by-products. Mixture of butanols and dibutyl ether is rectified. Isobutanol is separated from distillate and n-butanol from bubble residue, contg. n-butanol and dibutyl ether, by rectification with water from reaction mixture, and at 90-92 degrees C a distillate is formed, consisting of n-butanol, dibutyl ether and water.
|
