The invention comprises disperse dyes of formula wherein one X is OH and the other is NH 2 or NHCH 3 and each of Y is independently H, a metal equivalent, ammonium or a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon radical. The dyes are prepared by treating 1 mole of an aminohydroxyanthraquinone of the above formula, but wherein the -S-Y groups are replaced by sulphonic acid groups in the 3- and the 6- or 7- positions with at least 2 moles of a compound Y-S-Z, wherein Z is H, a metal equivalent or ammonium. The dyes are used to colour cellulose ester, synthetic polyester and polyamide fibres in blue shades. In examples, dyes wherein the radical Y is H, CH 3 , phenyl, mtolyl, p-ethylphenyl, 2-hydroxyethyl, ethyl, butyl and p-aminophenyl are described. |
