PURPOSE:To provide an inhibitor for abnormal phenomenon inhibiting abnormal phenomenon of an activated sludge and a method for inhibiting abnormal phenomenon by killing specifically a filamentanous fungus generating such a phenomenon as bulking or an actinomyces generating such a foaming phenomenon and an abnormal phenomenon as making scum in an activated sludge process. CONSTITUTION:In a treatment of waste water based on an activated sludge process, an inhibitor for abnormal phenomenon of an activated sludge contg. a tetraalkylammonium halide as an active ingredient is used or the active ingredient of the inhibitor for abnormal phenomenon contg. a tetraalkylammonium halide as an active ingredient is incorporated in the range of 0.05-5 pts.wt. per day to 100 pts.wt. dry solid of the active sludge.
